There is one thing that is common among all parents. They all want to capture the images of their newborns and children. The moment a child is born, the camera shutter starts clicking.
Some parents take the newborn photography on their own, some even go the extra mile by hiring a professional photographer specializing in newborn photography.
While it is a good idea to hire a professional photographer to photograph your newborn, with some simple newborn photography ideas at home, you yourself can capture those precious moments of your newborn.
Camera Basics for Your Newborn Photography
Some might think that they need a professional DSLR camera with all the bells and whistles to capture professional-looking photographs. While professionals do use professional level high end dSLR cameras, you will be surprised what a simple iPhone or midrange android phone can do in right hands.
Most of us think that it the camera that takes a good quality picture. Actually, a camera is just a tool and it’s the person holding the camera is the one that makes the camera perform.
Even a high-end most expensive camera is no good in the wrong hands. And if you know a few simple child photography ideas like how to prop and what kind of lights you need, then an average cellphone camera can do wonders.
Long story short, don’t get too hyped with the camera model and all. Focus on photography basics instead of the camera itself.
Lights – the Most Important Element of a Quality Photoshoot
No matter how much you have in your house, it will never be enough for a good quality photography. A simple Amazon $30 photography light can make day and night difference in your photography.
When buying a photography light with a light stand, make sure you get the highest number of lumens possible that fits your budget. Also, make sure you get a lightbox that emits diffused light and not direct light.
Direct light will show up too much reflection on the camera resulting the photograph having serious white balance and reflection issue. A diffused light on the other hand will emit enough lumens to get a bright photograph but will emit the light in a diffused manner without bright reflection.
If you are longing for high quality image of your newborn or child, do yourself a favor and order one of those photography light ahead of time. There are lots of DIY photography lights ideas floating around the internet and if you are the DIY type, feel free to make a lightbox on your own.
In my honest view, buying a table lamp or other type of lamp or bulb holder, wiring, other materials etc. will cost you a little. So, with a few extra bucks, you can get a professional-looking light that you can fold and set aside when the job is done.
