The Bible does not give us a lot of information about Moses’ parents. We know that his father was named Amram and his mother was named Jochebed. Beyond that, we don’t know much about them.
We do know that they were Levites. This meant that they were part of the tribe of Levi and were responsible for taking care of the tabernacle and its furnishings. We also know that they were slaves in Egypt.
Moses’ parents must have been brave people to have a baby in slavery. They must have been even braver when they decided to hide him from the Egyptians when he was born. And they must have had great faith to believe that God would protect their son and help him grow up to be the leader of His people.
Moses was born to a Levite father and mother. His father’s name was Amram, and his mother’s name was Jochebed. Moses had an older sister, Miriam, and a younger brother, Aaron.
When Moses was born, the Pharaoh of Egypt had issued a decree that all Hebrew baby boys were to be killed. Jochebed hid Moses for three months until she could no longer do so. She then placed him in a basket and set him afloat on the Nile River.
Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses and took him as her own son, naming him “Moses” because she drew him out of the water (Exodus 2:10).

As far as we know, Moses’ biological father is unknown.

What Did Moses’ Parents Do for a Living
Moses was born into a family of Levite priests, so it’s safe to say that his parents were involved in the religious life of their community. We don’t know much about their specific roles, but they would have been responsible for leading worship services, teaching the law to the people, and generally helping to maintain the spiritual health of their tribe. It was a demanding job, but one that was vital to the wellbeing of their society.
