The Bible doesn’t give us a whole lot of information on Mary’s background. All we really know is that she was a young woman from Nazareth who was engaged to be married to Joseph. Some people believe that Mary’s parents were named Joachim and Anne.

This theory comes from apocryphal texts, which are documents that didn’t make it into the Bible. According to these texts, Joachim and Anne were unable to have children and they prayed for a child for many years. One day, an angel appeared to them and told them that they would finally have a child – Mary.

Others believe that Mary was actually the daughter of Eliud, who was one of Jesus’ brothers . We don’t know how old she was when she married Joseph or when she gave birth to Jesus. We also don’t know how many children she had besides Jesus; tradition says that she had four daughters whose names were listed in Mark 15:40 as “Mary (the mother of James) and Salome.” It’s possible that these were actually sisters or cousins of Jesus rather than His actual biological sisters, but we can’t say for sure one way or another.

What we do know is that Mary was a faithful follower of her Son throughout His life and ministry. She must have been deeply affected by His death on the cross, but we see her again just over a month later when Jesus appears to His disciples after His resurrection (John 20:11-18). From these brief glimpses into her life, we can learn several lessons from Mary about what it means to be a follower of Christ.
