What you need:
  • 12x18" White Construction Paper
  • Red and white paint
  • Blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Stapler
  • Paint brush

What to do:
Read a book that reflects the specific patriotic holiday in which you are celebrating.
1 Cut a "hat shape" with a strip out of the 12x18" White sheet of paper.
2. Trace a medium star onto blue construction paper and allow your 4+ year old to cut out him or herself.
3. Using white paint, have your child dab on white stars.
4. Demonstrate on how to paint stripes onto the hat cut-out. Have the preschooler paint red stripes onto the white hat. It's now a great time to discuss pattern and look for following of directions.
5. Allow to dry.
6. Glue Star onto hat.

Ok, so my almost 3 year had a hard time with the stripe concept!
7. Measure head and staple into place- cut extra strip if needed to extend circumference.
