Kid's Craft: St. Nicholas Day Shoe Craft

St. Nicholas, or St. Nick, is mostly known for being the precursor of Santa Claus because of his knack for secret gift giving and that he is the Patron Saint of Children. St. Nicholas would leave gifts in the shoes of good children and coal in the shoes of bad ones. In the United States the feast of St. Nicholas is celebrated on December 6. Want to learn more? If you are thinking to yourself "I am not going to leave a gift of any kind in my kid's shoe!" Trust me, I thought the same thing. So I provided a very easy craft that's fun to do and less stinky.

Classified: Easy and is fun and easy enough to do with children of all ages including toddlers!

What you need:
  1. Tissue box or small kids size shoe box (long box)
  2. Shoe Template
  3. Crayons, markers, water colors, glitter, glue, ribbon, buttons, stickers or whatever you chose to decorate with.
  4. Scissors
  5. Glue
Optional: gift wrap to wrap the shoe box if desired.

What to do:
  1. Print out shoe template.
  2. Decorate accordingly.
  3. Cut out and glue to tissue box.
  4. Allow to dry.
  5. Discuss with your child facts about St. Nick

Back of St Nicholas Shoe Box

On the eve of December 5th, have your child(ren) leave their "shoe box" out for St. Nicholas to leave them a special treat. I'm sure you can figure out the rest- wink! Wink!
